Topa silenced the Blue Devils’ bats for much of Friday’s series opener in Brooklyn. On his way to a 9-inning complete-game victory, the veteran right-hander held Central Connecticut scoreless over the first 7.0 innings. He allowed only six hits, one earned run and walked none while striking out nine to pick up his third win of the season. Central Connecticut was unable to plate any runs with just four hits over the game’s first seven frames. After LIU exploded for a five-run seventh inning that gave the team a 9-0 lead, the Blue Devils finally touched Topa for a run in the eighth, which began with the righty plunking the leadoff man. Following an RBI single by CCSU’s JP Sportman, Topa recorded a strike out and a groundout to limit the damage. He came back out and threw a 1-2-3 ninth inning with a pair of strikeouts.
