Selmquist opened her outdoor season by clocking the fastest 10K time the NEC has ever seen. Contesting the Stanford University Invitational, the veteran Pioneer completed the 10,000m run in 34:58.98 to demolish her old personal best (and SHU program record) by nearly 2.5 minutes. Surpassing the 35:33.47 mark that Monmouth’s Jennifer Nelson produced last spring, Selmquist became the first NEC runner to come in under the 35:00 mark. The NEC leader currently ranks 16th overall in the NCAA East Region and should challenge the conference’s championship meet record (36:19.44) come May. Her time is more than 30 seconds better than what was the cut-off line for qualification in the 2012 NCAA East Championships.
