Peterson used his first meet of the outdoor season to put himself in prime position for a bid to the NCAA East Region Championship. Contesting the 1500m run at the Stanford University Invitational, the third-year Pioneer won his section and smashed his personal record by more than 16 seconds. Surging down the final straightaway to move from fourth place into first, Peterson crossed the finish line in 3:44.39. The time catapults Peterson to the top spot of the league leader board and sheds light on the Pioneer’s record-setting potential. The NEC Outdoor Championship meet record is 3:49.39, a mark set by Ford Palmer in 2012. On a grander scale, Peterson’s time ranks him eighth in all of NCAA Division I and fourth in the East Region. The top 48 entries in each region (East and West) for each individual event will earn bids to the NCAA Regional Championships.
