Monmouth and Quinnipiac opened Northeast Conference play with an old-fashioned pitchers’ duel and McGee emerged victorious. As a result, the southpaw retains the NEC Pitcher of the Week award that he first earned for his stellar start at Virginia Commonwealth. The junior lefty went the distance in Friday’s series opener, completing 9.0 scoreless innings for a 1-0 victory. He pounded the strike zone, throwing 95 strikes during the 132-pitch outing. McGee scattered 11 hits, but walked only two and fanned seven Quinnipiac batters.
