McGee pitched a masterpiece in the opener of Monmouth’s three-game set at Virginia Commonwealth. The New Jersey native went the distance in a 3-1 victory over a VCU team that was projected to finish 3rd out of 15 teams in the Atlantic 10 Conference. McGee scattered six hits over his 9.0 innings of work. He fanned five batters while issuing only one base on balls. The southpaw fired 113 pitches on the way to his second complete-game victory of the season. McGee was in control for much of the contest with VCU pushing across its only run by sandwiching a pair of singles around a wild pitch in the fourth inning. Monmouth broke a 1-1 tie on a successful squeeze bunt in the sixth to put McGee in line for the win and the lefty did the rest. Lowering his ERA to 3.26, McGee beat a team that opened the season by winning nine in a row.
