Mammino became the first starting pitcher to earn a victory for Wagner this season when he kept Norfolk State at bay on Saturday. The rookie southpaw twirled 6.2 innings, scattering five hits and allowing only one earned run in the 4-3 win. Mammino started strong, retiring the first eight batters to face him and allowing only two hits over his first 6.0 frames of work. Looking for the complete-game victory, the freshman lefty retired the first two men Norfolk State sent up in the seventh inning, but couldn’t nail down the elusive third out. Mammino surrendered three straight two-out singles before giving way to Steven Bloodsworth, who closed out the win. On the year, Mammino is 1-0 with a team-leading 2.30 ERA and nine strikeouts over 15.2 innings of work while limiting opposing hitters to a paltry .214 average.
