So far, so good for Quinnipiac and rookie outfielder Steffen Herter. Helping the Bobcats to a season-opening series sweep of Atlantic 10 member George Washington, Herter hit .400 (4-for-10) with two RBI, one run and four stolen bases. The first-year Bobcat produced a run in each of his team’s three victories. Despite going 0-for-3 in his collegiate debut, Herter managed to score a run in Quinnipiac’s 8-3 series-opening win after drawing a walk and stealing a base. The following day, Herter produced the first multi-hit game of his collegiate career by going 3-for-4 with a pair of steals and a RBI in a 4-2 triumph. Herter hit his way on base safely during each of his first three at-bats of the game, including a second-inning run-scoring base knock that extended QU’s lead to 2-0. Herter singled and stole a base in the seventh inning of the series finale before delivering in the deciding ninth frame. Herter’s RBI sac fly capped a three-run ninth for Quinnipiac, which trailed 2-1 after eight, and plated what held up as the game-winning run.
