The quality of the competition did not appear to faze Bryant’s ace in the slightest.  Taking the ball for the series opener at No. 5 Oregon State, Kelich twirled 5.0 scoreless innings before exiting with a 1-0 lead.  Bryant’s veteran right-hander scattered three hits and allowed no free passes to a lineup that averages more than 6.0 runs per game.  Kelich, the 2012 NEC Pitcher of the Year, exercised great control against the Beavers and struck out four batters, including Preseason All-America outfielder Michael Conforto.  He was in line for the victory until Oregon State plated the game-tying run in the eighth inning before winning it in the 10th frame.  Kelich allowed only one Beaver to reach scoring position during his 5.0 frames of work.  After OSU’s Andy Peterson led off the third inning with a double, Kelich got tough.  The 6-foot-2, 190-pound righty induced a fly out from centerfielder Max Gordon before retiring a pair of All-Pac 12 selections to end the threat.  Kelich forced shortstop Tyler Smith to line out softly, and retired Conforto, the 2012 Pac 12 Freshman of the Year, on a groundout. Kelich is the lone starting pitcher against whom Oregon State (12-0) did not plate a run this season.
