As it turned out, Howe was just warming up during Saturday’s ECAC Singles Tournament. The Saint Francis freshman took fourth place in the individual competition, but settled for nothing but the best during Sunday’s ECAC Team Championship. Spearheading Saint Francis’ 4-1 record and second-place finish at the seven-team, single-day, event, Howe posted a tournament-high 20.38 baker frame average. The native Pennsylvanian struck on 50 percent of her attempts and filled 42 of 48 baker frames bowled. Opening the day in the leadoff spot before eventually sliding down into the anchor position, Howe helped the Red Flash take down No. 11 Kutztown (twice) and Salem International. With their rookie leading the way, Saint Francis, which upped its overall record to 52-21 and owns the No. 10 national ranking, was the only team to defeat eventual ECAC team champion LIU Brooklyn on Sunday. Although the NEC rival Blackbirds took home the team title, Howe managed to claim the ECAC MVP award by virtue of her 20.38 pins per frame average.
