The Red Flash put together another winning weekend and Derr’s 19.20 frame average was a key factor. The rookie bowler featured an effective strike ball throughout the duration of the three-day, 26-team James Brown Invitational. Helping Saint Francis (PA) secure seven victories at the talent-loaded tournament that featured 17 teams who are ranked in the latest NTCA Top 20 poll, Derr threw 45 strikes in 88 attempts for a team-high .511 strike percentage. The freshman Flash was at her best during the traditional team play portion of the event. She topped all NEC freshmen on hand by posting a 212.6 five-game traditional average. Derr failed to eclipse the 200-pin mark only once on Saturday, settling for a 193 game against No. 4 Arkansas State. She unleashed her high game, a 225-pin effort, against No. 3 Nebraska. The freshman was less effective during baker play, but helped the Red Flash to a 777-769 baker victory over National No. 1 Central Missouri on the tournament’s opening day.
