Palmer finished second in the mile at last year’s NEC Indoor Championships, but his latest performance suggests he is interested in trading his silver in for some gold when the 2013 edition of the conference title meet unfolds on February 9-10 in Landover, MD. Competing in a stacked field at the Boston University Terrier Classic, the veteran miler displayed record-breaking potential. Snatching both the league lead and the NEC Track Athlete of the Week award away from Central Connecticut’s Brian Biekert, Palmer completed the race in 4:01.90. The time placed the fourth-year Hawk second amongst the 176-entrant field and lifted him into the No. 23 spot on the NCAA Division I leader board. Should he repeat that performance at the conference championships, Palmer would smash a 12-year old NEC record by a 7.63-second margin.
