Saunders is certainly not slumping during her sophomore season. The CCSU high jumper, who set a meet record at the 2012 NEC Outdoor Championships, accounted for an indoor seasonal best during her last time out. Matching the winning height of UConn’s Natasha McLaren, Saunders cleared 1.75m (5’ 8.75”) at the UAlbany Great Dane Classic. The recent performance at the NYC 168th Street Armory stands two centimeters better than the 1.73m mark that landed her a gold medal at the Army Crowell Open on January 5. Saunders’ new seasonal best lifts her into a second-place tie with Monmouth’s Alison Day on the NEC leader board. Defending NEC champion Rachel Watkins (1.78m) currently ranks first in the league. Saunders is one of 42 NCAA Division I high jumpers to have cleared 1.75m this season.
