If Central Connecticut’s Colby Delbene hopes to defend his NEC indoor title in the mile, he’ll be facing some stiff competition from a fellow Blue Devil. Sophomore miler Brian Biekert took over the Northeast Conference lead with his performance at this past weekend’s UAlbany Great Dane Classic. Biekert took third in a stacked field that was topped by Villanova’s Alex Tully. He crossed the line in 4:12.54, besting the time (4:13.37) that earned Sacred Heart’s Patrick Peterson last week’s NEC Track Performer of the Week award. In doing so, Biekert adds his name to the list of NEC milers who have qualified for the IC4A Championships in March.
