Richard appears poised to score in multiple events when she makes her NEC Indoor Championship debut come February. The first-year Blackbird, who hails from the same high school as four-time NEC Indoor MVP Jessie Gaines, has taken over the league lead in both the 60m dash and 60m hurdles. Richard put her ability on display at the New York Road Runners’ College Night at the Races on January 12. Clocking in at 7.68, the native Virginian topped a field of 43 entrants to take gold in the 60m dash. Her winning time matches the qualifying standard for the ECAC Championships in March and ties her with St. Francis Brooklyn’s Kristal Williams atop the NEC performance list. Richard scored a fourth-place finish in the 60m hurdles at the NYRR-sponsored meet, posting a final time of 8.88. Although the mark is .08 second off the ECAC standard, it is good enough to lead the league.
