After her high-jumping teammate claimed the honor last week, Young keeps the NEC Field Athlete of the Week award in Monmouth’s possession. The junior thrower’s performance at Princeton’s New Year Invitational made her the early season favorite to win the weight throw when the NEC Championships commence in February. Young threw the 20 lb. weight 17.41m (57’ 1.5”) to take second place amongst the 21-competitor field at Princeton. In the NEC, however, no thrower has yet to come within 80 centimeters of Young’s league-leading mark, which is 21 centimeters better than the performance that earned her the bronze medal at the 2011 NEC Indoor Track & Field Championships in Landover, MD.
