Derr’s collegiate debut yielded staggering results. The rookie right-hander averaged 21.4 pins per frame over the course of a weekend that saw Saint Francis (PA) win 10 of 11 matches contested. Derr’s first collegiate competition came at Saturday’s KU Fall Baker Invite where she filled 85 percent of frames bowled. Averaging 20.3 pins per baker frame, Derr spearheaded the Flash’s 5-1 showing in six quad-baker matches. The freshman, however, was only warming up and would perform even better during Sunday’s KU Fall Team Invite. Over the course of five traditional team matches, all of which were won by the Red Flash, Derr posted a tournament-best pinfall of 1,178. Her 235.6 traditional average earned her the tournament’s MVP award. After striking 52.5 percent of the time during Saturday’s baker event, Derr produced a .684 strike percentage and filled 90.0 percent of her frames on Sunday.
