Branch produced a number of key defensive plays throughout Robert Morris’ NEC victory over Central Connecticut, and the rookie was especially impressive down the stretch. The freshman cornerback recorded three pass break-ups and an interception in helping the Colonials capture their first NEC victory. Branch also logged six tackles, including four solo stops, and returned one punt for 13 yards. The rookie was at his best in the fourth quarter of the 37-31 triumph. With the game tied at 31-31, Branch made a leaping interception at Central’s 38-yard line. RMU scored the game-winning touchdown on the ensuing possession with 1:50 to play. Branch made sure Robert Morris held onto that advantage by making two tackles and breaking up a pair of passes on CCSU’s final drive.
