Carthan has made three starts in goal for Rider and has three victories to show for it. The freshman keeper picked up a pair of road victories over formidable foes this past week. Carthan, whose first career start was a shutout of CAA member Hofstra, silenced a high-powered Penn attack and shut out LaSalle for more than a half of hockey. The 6-foot freshman went up against a Penn team that entered averaging an Ivy League-high 4.00 goals per game and held the Quakers scoreless for 70 minutes. Carthan followed up the 3-0 win over Penn by keeping LaSalle off the scoreboard for the first 49:30 of an eventual overtime victory. After surrendering two second-half goals, the Rider rookie rose to the occasion and turned aside a shot from Olivia Shoemaker who was attempting to win it for LaSalle in the final two minutes of regulation. Her goals-against average (GAA) for the week was 1.04.
