Looking much like the reigning NEC Offensive Player of the Year she is, Penas scored four goals in fewer than 109 minutes of field hockey last week. The Spanish-born forward spearheaded Rider’s attack against a pair of Patriot League foes. First, Penas scored the 40th goal of her career against No. 14 Lafayette in the second half of a game that originally began on September 7 but was suspended due to lightning in the 39th minute. Rider, which trailed the nationally-ranked Leopards by a 2-0 count when the game resumed on September 25, avoided the shutout thanks to Penas’ late tally. Later in the week, Penas put forth a hat trick as Rider built an amazing 8-0 lead over Lehigh in the game’s first 46 minutes. She rattled the cage twice over a 1:24 span that saw Rider score three times to turn a 1-0 lead into a commanding 4-0 advantage. Penas completed the hat trick 44 seconds into the second half as her backhand shot made the score 7-0.
