Monmouth’s Edney Derrick tallied five points, including three assists, during a 2-0-1 week to earn the distinction of NEC Rookie of the Week. In a 3-1 win over Providence, Derrick set up teammate Francois “Paco” Navarro twice as the Hawks overcame an early 1-0 deficit to down the Friar in front of nearly 2,000 fans. He then scored his first collegiate goal, the eventual game-winner, in a 2-0 win over Garden State foe Rider. Derrick closed out the week with his third assist of the season, a cross to last week’s NEC Player of the Week Jacob Rubinstein in the opening minutes of a 1-1 draw against Hofstra.
