The NEC Women’s Field Athlete of the Week award went to a different thrower for the third consecutive week. This time, Sacred Heart’s Athalia Smith staked claim to the honor following what is the best hammer throw performance the NEC has seen thus far this season. In what was her first competition of the young outdoor season, Smith won a gold medal at the UConn Women’s Invitational on Saturday, March 31. The veteran Pioneer’s winning toss of 56.82m (186’ 5”) catapulted Smith atop the NEC leader board and into 15th place in the entire NCAA East Region.
