Gaines was nothing short of her sensational self at the Metropolitan Outdoor Championships. The veteran Blackbird picked up gold medals in both the long and triple jump competitions and tightened her grip of the NEC lead in both events. Gaines won the long jump by more than a half-meter and her winning 6.45m (21’ 2”) mark ranks fourth in the NCAA East Region and 10th in all of Division I. Gaines triple-jumped 12.75m (41’ 10”) at the Mets to move up to 25th on the national Division I leader board. Both marks are better than the current meet records for the NEC Outdoor Championships, which are set for May 5-6.
