One week after CCSU rookie Ronea Saunders took over the NEC high jump lead, Watkins picked her performance up a notch at the Moravian Greyhound Invitational in Bethlehem, PA. The third-year Hawk cleared 1.77m (5’ 9.75”) to reclaim the top spot on the NEC performance list and set a new personal record in the process. Watkins’ winning jump at Moravian eclipsed her previous seasonal best of 1.71m as well as the PR (1.76m) she set at the 2012 NEC Indoor Championships. Should Watkins repeat this performance at the 2012 NEC Outdoor title meet, which is set for May 5-6 in Emmitsburg, MD, the Garden State product would easily surpass the 20-year old conference record of 1.73m that fellow Monmouth Hawk Alison Day matched at last year’s conference championship meet.
