Robert Morris’ Jake Hayes scored five goals and totaled an RMU- and NEC-record nine points in leading the Colonials past Quinnipiac, 25-9, and earning his third NEC Offensive Player of the Week award of the season. In the NEC’s three years of sponsoring men’s lacrosse, no player had recorded more than eight points in a game until Hayes did it this past Saturday against the Bobcats. Hayes did most of his damage early on, scoring three times and dishing out two of his career-high four assists in the first half. He then added two more goals in the third quarter, and finished his day with back-to-back assists to open the fourth. With his nine-point effort, Hayes upped his point total to 52 through 13 games. He currently ranks first in overall goals per game (2.85) in the conference and places second in points per game (4.00).
