Wagner’s Nicholas Gibaldi made 20 saves and collected four ground balls to lead the Seahawks to their first win of the season, an 11-8 decision over Sacred Heart, and earn this week’s NEC Defensive Player of the Week award. The Rocky Point, NY native was stellar in the latter portions of the contest after making five stops in the first half. He stuffed the Pioneers on seven attempts in the third before shutting the door in the fourth, recording eight stops while the WC offense rallied from an 8-6 deficit with a 5-0 run that sealed head coach Matt Poskay’s first win at Wagner. With his 20-save effort, Gibaldi took over the overall league lead in saves per game (13.17).
