Nelson broke her own program record by turning in one of the top 10,000-meter performances in all of NCAA Division I thus far this outdoor season. With her showing at last week’s Raleigh Relays, the 2011 NEC champion has surged into the No. 1 spot on the conference’s performance list and looks intent on defending her crown. Nelson clocked in at 35:42.14, which is well under the qualifying standard for the ECAC Championships, to place fourth in a stacked Raleigh Relays field that produced four of the top-five times in the NCAA East Region thus far. Nelson sits fifth in the region, which is led by Raleigh Relays champ Sydney Fitzpatrick.
