Along with the spring season, Berzins has sprung.  The Fairleigh Dickinson freshman won a pair of key singles matches last week on the way to making it three NEC Rookie of the Week awards in a row.  Facing conference competition for the first time in his young collegiate career, Berzins posted a pair of straight-set victories at the No. 1 singles spot.  First, he blanked Quinnipiac’s Andrew Weeden, 6-0, 6-0, as part of a 6-1 team triumph.  One day later, he posted a 6-2, 6-4 win over Chad Sullo of the defending NEC champion Sacred Heart Pioneers.  Berzins has won six of his last eight singles contests with the lone defeats coming at the rackets of Fordham’s Kuba Kowalski and Gonzaga’s Alvaro Nazal.  Although he did suffer one singles setback last week, a three-setter to Fordham’s Kowalski, Berzins was a perfect 3-0 in doubles competition.
