Torrell lifted the lid off his collegiate outdoor career at a place that has a history of great throwers, including USA National javelin champion Bobby Smith. The first-year Hawk, who hails from the same high school as Monmouth shot putter Vinny Elardo, threw his way to the top of the NEC leader board while competing at the annual Monmouth Outdoor Season Opener. Torrell’s top javelin toss of 58.55m (193’ 1”) made him an early favorite to score at the NEC title meet, which is set for May 5&6 at Mount St. Mary’s. The mark earned him a bronze medal at the open meet.
