Brown brought a big bat down to Mount St. Mary’s for the start of Northeast Conference play. The junior rightfielder, who was a NECBL All-Star this past summer, blasted four home runs during the Bulldogs’ four-game sweep of the Mount. He went 8-for-19 (.421) at the plate and drove in eight runs to help Bryant take an early lead in the NEC standings. The former NEC Rookie of the Year (2010) scored at least one run in every game played last week, including a non-conference triumph over Big South member Liberty. The left-handed hitting Brown opened his third season of NEC play by going 3-for-5 with three RBI and three runs scored in an 11-3 victory over the Mountaineers. After earning a base on balls in his first plate appearance, Bryant’s No. 2 hitter went deep to lead off the third inning and added a two-run bomb in the fifth frame. Brown continued his power surge in Game 2 of the series and added some late-inning heroics into the mix as well. With one out and two on in the seventh frame of a scheduled seven-inning contest, the third-year Bulldog broke a 1-1 tie by blasting a game-winning three-run bomb over the rightfield fence. Brown was held hitless during Game 3, but he did come around to score the decisive run in the eighth inning of a 3-2 victory. Two batters into the series finale, Bryant had a 2-0 lead thanks to Brown. Setting the tone for an eventual 13-6 triumph, Brown followed Dan Muscatello’s leadoff walk by sending a two-run shot over the fence in right.
