Monmouth’s Dion Nesmith continues to be a nice addition to King Rice’s arsenal on the hardwood. The former collegiate quarterback from Northeastern averaged 16.5 points in a 1-1 week to earn a share of the Choice Hotels/NEC Rookie of the Week award and help his Hawks qualify for the 2012 playoffs. In a 74-64 setback at Wagner last Thursday, Nesmith scored 13 points and pulled down five boards, four of which came on the defensive side of the ball. He then lit up the scoreboard on Saturday with 20 in a playoff-clinching win over Mount St. Mary’s, 68-66, marking MU’s first win at Knott Arena in five years. In that win, he shot 7-for-10 from the field and 6-for-7 from long range in addition to handing out three assists and committing just one turnover. Nesmith ranks second on the Hawks in scoring at 8.7 ppg and made three-pointers (36). In league play, he leads the NEC in three-point accuracy, hitting at a 53.8 percent clip.
