Junior Jake Hayes scored four goals and set up three others as Robert Morris opened the season with back-to-back road wins for the first time since 2010. Kicking off the year at Bellarmine, Feb. 11, Hayes had a knack for the offense as the Colonials prevailed 9-8 over the Knights, scoring three times and totaling four points. He did most of his damage in the first three quarters before netting the eventual game-winner with 5:14 to play. BU would end the game on a 3-0 run and see its final shot attempt blocked with under 10 seconds to play. After a seven-day break, Hayes picked up right where he left off with a three-point outing on a goal and two assists at UMBC. The Calgary, Alberta native set up teammate Mike Keegan’s strike to make it a 2-0 game late in the first and then broke a 2-all tie with his fourth of the season early in the second. He finished the game with an assist on a key insurance goal that made it 10-8 with 5:46 to play. Hayes currently leads the Colonials with seven points and is tied with Bryant’s Colin Dunster for the conference lead in points.
