Washington became the NEC first freshman to produce back-to-back 20-point performances this season. Sacred Heart’s rookie guard poured in a total of 48 points over a two-game Rivalry Week sweep of Bryant. Washington poured in 21 points on the front end of the Connecticut Collision, which resulted in a 79-64 Sacred Heart victory, and was even better on the back end of the home-and-home series. Spearheading SHU’s 74-67 road win in Smithfield, Washington set the NEC single-game scoring season high for a rookie with 27 points. Looking like the NEC leader in three-point field goal percentage (.485) that she is, the 5-foot-9 freshman from Mesa, AZ made 3 of 4 attempts from downtown during the 27-point explosion. She shot well from the free throw line, too, making 16 of 18 attempts on the week. Her 10-for-10 showing at the charity stripe on Feb. 11 marked the first time a Pioneer made at least 10 free throws in a game without a miss since former NEC player of the Year Alisa Apo did so in the 2009 NEC Tournament final.
