Hayward’s hot hand helped Saint Francis (PA) post back-to-back wins that catapulted the Red Flash right back into the thick of the NEC race. Accounting for the best two-game scoring output by a NEC rookie this season, the 5-foot-8 freshman guard averaged 21.0 points per contest as the Flash downed LIU Brooklyn and St. Francis (NY). Hayward turned in a season-high 23 points, on 8-for-13 shooting, during a 67-59 win over LIU Brooklyn that pushed Saint Francis (PA) above the .500 mark in league play. The native Pennsylvania poured in another 19 points during a wire-to-wire win over St. Francis (NY). Hayward, who hit on 7 of 10 shots against the Terriers, was hot from the start as she drilled a three-pointer 35 seconds into the eventual 60-51 triumph. The back-to-back Choice Hotels NEC Rookie of the Week recipient did most of her damage from downtown last week, hitting five three-pointers in each win. She shot 65.2 percent overall from the field, including a 10-for-14 clip (.714) from long distance. Hayward has led the Flash in scoring during each of the last four games, three of which have been Saint Francis victories.
