From Gaines to Jazmin Waller and back to Gaines has been the path traveled by the NEC Field Athlete of the Week award. Gaines turned in a seasonal best to win the triple jump title at the 2012 Great Dane Classic. Improving upon her NEC-leading mark, three-time NEC Indoor MVP triple jumped 12.59m (41’ 3.75”) to claim gold. Her latest performance catapults the veteran Blackbird into the America’s Top 15. Her winning mark at the Great Dane Classic ranks as the 14th-best by a NCAA Division I athlete this season. Gaines also ranks 18th amongst NCAA leaders in the 60-meter hurdles (8.40).
