Peterson used a breakthrough performance to take over the NEC Track Athlete of the Week post fellow Pioneer Bertony Jean-Louis last occupied. The sophomore mid-distance runner had never before broken the 2:30 mark in the 1,000-meter run, but changed that at the Boston University Multi-Team Meet last Thursday. Peterson flew to a first place finish at BU, completing the race in 2:25.65 and walking away as Sacred Heart’s program record holder. In the process of qualifying for the IC4A Championships in March and posting the fastest 1K time the NEC has seen this season, Peterson topped the record (2:26.58) set by Luis German in 2008.
