FitzSimons competed in the Heptathlon for the first time this season and walked away from the performance with a facility record. The fourth-year Mountaineer, who qualified for the 2011 NCAA Outdoor Championships in the Decathlon, tallied 5,306 points to win the Navy Invitational and set a record for the Wesley A. Brown Field House. While producing the NEC’s top Heptathlon score and the 12th-highest in NCAA Division I thus far this season, FitzSimons grabbed a share of the NEC lead in the pole vault. He added 775 points to his score by vaulting 4.55m (14’ 11”). The height ties SHU sophomore Scott Polis for the top spot on the league leader board.
