What a week for Julian Boyd and the defending NEC Champion Blackbirds. The 6-7 junior forward out of San Antonio, TX, scored his 1,000th career point and averaged 21 points per game as LIU Brooklyn took over sole possession of first place in the league standings with a perfect 6-0 record. In an 82-64 decision over Fairleigh Dickinson on Thursday, the 2011-12 Preseason All-NEC selection became the 30th player in LIU history to score 1,000 points as part of his 14-point, eight-rebound performance against the Knights. Additionally, he became 176th player in NEC history to accomplish the feat. Following a day off, Boyd returned to the hardwood and doubled his Thursday effort by scoring 28 points in a 106-86 victory over Monmouth. He hit 11-13 shots from the floor and added eight boards, two assists and a block against the Hawks. Boyd ranks in the NEC top-10 in scoring (16.8 PPG, sixth in league), rebounding (9.4 RPG, second), field goal percentage (.518, eighth) and double-doubles (7, second).
