The reigning NEC Indoor MVP appears ready to make another run at the conference’s top individual honor. In addition to flying to easy wins in the 60-meter dash and hurdles, Gaines struck gold in the triple jump at the Metro Coaches’ Invitational, which was held at the NYC Armory. Gaines, the NEC triple jump record holder, out-classed the field on hand by with a bound of 12.48m (40’ 9”). The winning mark stands more than 50 centimeters better than the qualifying standard for the ECAC Championships and sits just 13 centimeters shy of the NEC meet record she set last February.
