A trip to Connecticut for matchups against a pair of 10-win teams was not enough to prevent Palmer from earning a Choice Hotels NEC Player of the Week honors for the third week in a row. LIU Brooklyn’s veteran forward averaged a double-double of 26.5 points and 10.5 rebounds in road games at Sacred Heart and Quinnipiac. Palmer poured in 23 points, accounting for nearly 40 percent of her team’s total scoring output, in a 74-59 setback at Sacred Heart. After a 9-for-16 shooting sample at SHU on Jan. 7, the 5-foot-10 senior made 13 of 21 attempts at Quinnipiac on Jan. 9 to reach the 30-point mark for the second time this season. Palmer’s 30 points and 13 rebounds made the Pennsylvania product the all-time leading scorer in LIU history while carrying the Blackbirds to a 74-64 win over the Bobcats, who had won five of their last six games entering Monday night’s matchup. Palmer, who leads the NEC in points per game (20.2), passed former NEC Tournament MVP Tamika Dudley (1,745) for the top spot on the program’s all-time scoring list and has 1,772 career points. The preseason all-NEC forward shot 59.5 percent from the field over the two-game swing, hitting on 22 of 37 attempts and moving up to third on the league’s field goal percentage (.519) leader board.
