It has become quite common to see Central Connecticut rookie Kyle Vinales’ name on the Northeast Conference’s weekly awards release and it is no different this week. With his performance over the weekend, the Detroit, MI product has now won the award five out of the six weeks it has been offered after leading the Blue Devils in scoring in a 70-64 setback at Northwestern. Vinales poured in a game-high 27 points in 37 minutes of action by sinking 11 of 22 shots from the field, including four from beyond the arc, as CCSU was within one possession of the Wildcasts in the final 20 seconds of play. In his last two games, the NEC’s second-ranked scorer and leading freshman point producer in the nation has combined for 55 points. Additionally, his outing against the team’s second test against a Big Ten foe in the past three games saw him put up at least 24 points for the sixth time this season.
