Mockford showed off why he is one of the best long-distance snipers in the Northeast Conference last week in a 73-71 road-victory over Howard. The sophomore transfer drained seven 3s, including the go-ahead trey in the final 35 seconds, to lift St. Francis (NY) to its third win of the season on Monday and earn this week’s Choice Hotels/NEC Player of the Week award. The league’s top three-point shooter with 3.3 makes per game, Mockford rallied the Terriers from a one-point deficit at the break by knocking down 3 of 4 shots from distance before making it 4 of 5 in the second half with a three that broke a 68-all tie and put SFC in front for good. He finished the evening with a game-high 24 points, 21 of which came on a 7-of-10 three-point shooting display. He also connected on three of his four free-throw attempts, missing the fourth on purpose with one second remaining in hopes of running out the clock.
