Phillips made a team-high seven solo stops to help Wagner slam the brakes on its seven-game slide. Going up against the NEC’s top-ranked pass offense, the sophomore cornerback totaled eight tackles, including 0.5 TFL, and made a touchdown-saving interception during the Seahawks’ 27-21 triumph over NEC foe Sacred Heart. Phillips set the tone from the start, limiting SHU receiver Garry Coles to a two-yard gain on the game’s first play from scrimmage. He put the Pioneers in a hole on their next possession, dropping ball carrier Greg Moore for a five-yard loss on 1st-and-10. With Sacred Heart looking to add to a 14-7 lead in the final 2:00 of the opening half, the transfer from Syracuse produced another key play t hat snuffed out the scoring threat. He stepped in front of a Tim Little pass on 2nd-and-Goal from the 6-yard line and returned it to Wagner’s 40-yard line.
