It was a record setting weekend for senior Ashley Rice who shattered both the NEC’s and LIU’s long standing single-match block record in the Blackbirds’ hotly contested 3-2 loss against Sacred Heart Sunday. For her efforts she earns Molten/NEC Defender of the Week honors. The middle blocker notched 19 blocks against the Pioneers to best the previous league mark of 15 held shared by Quinnipiac’s Shannon Dublin, Karen Klein, and Bryant’s Maria Scocca. Her blocks passed the school mark of 13 held by Kishan Zuber, who tallied 13 blocks against Dartmouth in 1997. The New Jersey native finished the week averaging 2.50 blocks per game and currently is averaging 1.57 blocks per game in the 21 games she has played in this season.
