Hayes carried the load for Monmouth’s rushing attack in a 31-17 NEC road win over Sacred Heart. The rookie running back pounded out 84 yards on the ground and found the end zone three times to help the Hawks win for the fourth time on the road this season. Easing the burden on a quarterback making his first career start and establishing the run, Hayes carried the ball 25 times in the victory that ended the Pioneers’ four-game win streak. The 5-foot-10 freshman ran eight yards for the go-ahead touchdown with 2:25 remaining in the third quarter. He added two more touchdown runs of four and 15 yards as the Hawks turned a 14-10 deficit into a 31-17 lead.
