Gray recorded three tackles as part of a defensive effort that limited the Colonials to 25 rushing yards, but made the most impact on special teams. The freshman safety opened the second-half scoring by becoming the first Monmouth player since 2005 to return a fumble for a touchdown. With the game tied 10-10 and Robert Morris punting from its own end after going three-and-out on its first possession of the third quarter, Gray broke into the backfield as the RMU punter juggled the snap. Not able to get the kick off, the punter tucked the ball away, but Kwabena Asante’s tackle jarred it loose. The alert Gray scooped it up and rumbled 11 yards to pay dirt.
