The Preseason All-American made Robert Morris history and carried the Colonials to a 23-20 road win over previously red-hot Monmouth at the Jersey Shore. King made nine catches for a game-high 104 yards and two touchdowns. Three of his nine receptions came on what proved to be the game-winning drive, which began with 10:07 remaining in the fourth quarter and the Colonials facing a 20-17 deficit. His first catch of the drive, which went for 11 yards, allowed him to tie RMU’s all-time career receptions record. Two plays later, his 10-yard catch gave Robert Morris a first down and made him the No. 1 leading receiver in Colonials’ history. With Robert Morris facing a 3rd-and-6 at Monmouth’s 21-yard line and looking to move the chains rather than settle for a game-tying field goal attempt, RMU QB Jeff Sinclair called King’s number again. King made the catch around Monmouth’s 8-yard line, which was plenty enough for the first down, but the 6-foot-3 tight end didn’t stop there. He carried a few would-be tacklers inside the 5 and dove for the goaline, just breaking the plane for the go-ahead score. The 225-pound target opened the game’s scoring by beating two defenders over the middle for his first touchdown of the season, a 19-yard strike from Sinclair. King, who has made at least one catch in each of his last 23 games, has 115 career receptions, which stand three better than RMU’s previous record of 112 set by Tyjuan Massy (2002-05).
