Smith accounted for a career performance that carried the Great Danes to a convincing 44-21 win at Ivy League member Columbia. Helping the Danes break into the win column following an 0-2 season start, Smith was responsible for a career-high three touchdowns. The junior tailback rushed 19 times for a career-high 155 yards and a pair of scores. Smith, a former high school quarterback, also helped the Danes cash in on a fumble recovery deep in Columbia territory by throwing a 10-yard touchdown pass that extended Albany’s lead to 37-14 midway through the third quarter. The scoring strike came only 44 seconds after Smith recorded a four-yard touchdown run. The 6-foot-2 Smith scored his first touchdown out of the wildcat formation. He took a direct snap and scampered 41 yards to open the game’s scoring. The performance marked the second time in Smith’s career he exceeded the 100-yard rushing mark in game.
