Watkins exchanged the NEC Field Athlete of the Week award she won last Tuesday for this week’s NEC track honor. Moving from the high jump pit over to the track, Watkins took over the NEC lead in a second event. The second-year Hawk won a bronze medal in the 400-meter hurdles at Princeton’s Larry Ellis Invitational. Watkins crossed the finish line in 1:01.70, trailing only Dartmouth’s Alexandra Tanner and Georgetown’s London Finley. The time, which stands 0.87 second better than the qualifying standard for the ECAC Championships, allowed Watkins to displace freshman teammate Laura Williams from her perch atop the NEC’s 400-meter hurdle performance list. Watkins’ weekly award makes it three consecutive weeks during which a Monmouth Hawk has claimed the NEC Track Athlete of the Week honor (distance runner Jen Nelson won the last two).
