Gibney takes home her second NEC Player of the Week award of the year after she helped steer Quinnipiac to a pair of road wins over playoff contending teams. In doing so, the Bobcats secured the NEC regular season title and top seed in the NEC Tournament, which will be hosted by Quinnipiac beginning with Friday’s semifinal round. Gibney, one of the league’s top two-way players, scored four goals, added three assists and contributed eight draw controls, five ground balls and four caused turnovers on the week. In Thursday’s 11-8 victory over Mount St. Mary’s, she finished with two goals, an assist, three ground balls, a draw control and a caused turnover. Gibney contributed two goals, two assists, a season-high seven draw wins, two ground balls and three caused turnovers on Saturday as Quinnipiac won for the 11th time in 12 games with a 13-8 triumph over Monmouth. The seven draw controls tied her for third on the NEC single-game list this season. Gibney, a Hopkinton, MA native who has shut down some of the NEC’s top offensive performers this season, finished the regular season with 30 goals and 41 points to rank third on the Bobcats in both categories. She is fifth in the NEC with 2.73 draw controls per game.
