Frey put out the fire in Monmouth’s mid-week game against NJ rival Saint Peter’s and spun a near-perfect 6.0 innings to notch his second collegiate victory. The rookie southpaw did not allow a hit during his 6.0 innings of relief in the eventual 11-3 win. After Saint Peter’s jumped on Monmouth’s starter for three first-inning runs, Frey came out of the bullpen to start the second frame. The freshman hurler walked the leadoff batter, who advanced to second base on a sac bunt, but used a ground out and strike out to strand the runner. Frey allowed another base runner on a one-out hit-by-pitch in the third inning, but slammed the door shut the rest of the way. He retired the last 14 men he faced before handing the ball, and an 11-3 lead, to Andrew McGee in the eighth. Frey, who earned his first career win by pitching 1.1 scoreless innings in a 10-9 triumph over Central Connecticut back on April 3, set season highs for innings pitched (6.0) and strikeouts (5) against Saint Peter’s.
